About Dr. Doris

Dr. Johnson believes in servicing the community as well as the individual and is a member and volunteer of the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association, and has volunteered in Haiti with Acupuncturists Without Borders following the 2010 earthquake.

Dr. Doris-Owanda  Johnson received her Bachelor’s degree from UC Santa Barbara and a Master’s Degree from UCLA before continuing her training as an acupuncturist. She received her MATCM from Yo San University in 1998, and her Ph.D. from American Liberty University in 2013.

Currently a Professor and Clinical Supervisor at Daoist Traditions College of Chinese Medical Arts, in Asheville, NC, Dr. Johnson is passionate about Chinese herbal medicine and nutrition, and enthusiastically imparts this passion both in her private practice, as well as with students and interns.  As a licensed acupuncturist, herbalist and nutritionist since 1998, she embraces wholistic health, promoting radiant and balanced health for all.

Dr. Doris believes in order for wholistic healing to take place on all levels, one must also move the body in ways to allow for free energy flow and a connection to nature. She is a sought after African dance instructor and has been practicing Tai Chi since 1997.

Dr. Doris incorporate Tai Chi Chuan, a gentle movement/meditation exercise into her corporate wellness retreats providing participants with a total wellness experience. Tai Chi Chuan is practiced to increase strength in the body, bring peace of mind and promote well-being and longevity. She enjoys teaching the Long Form of Yang Style Tai Chi where emphasis is placed on overall health and longevity, strengthening the body structure, improving balance, creativity, mental sharpness and preventing chronic illnesses.

“It gives me great pride and joy to help others regain and maintain their health.  It’s as if I’m assisting them in having the chance to truly enjoy life and fulfill their life purpose.  I take a genuine interest in my patients’ care.  My focus is on the total health of the individual – body, mind, emotions, spirit…”
